John Lennon Biopic, Doors Documentary Getting Canadian Premieres During CMW 2010

Canadian Music Week 2010 looks to not only be a great week for fans of live music, but also for those who enjoy music-related films.
Nowhere Boy, Sam Taylor Wood's John Lennon biopic which premiered in the U.K. in December, will have its Canadian premiere on March 13 at Toronto's Royal Cinema.
The 98-minute film, which stars newcomer Aaron Johnson as Lennon and Kristin Scott Thomas (Four Weddings And A Funeral, The English Patient) as his Aunt Mimi, will screen at 9 p.m. that day. According to a press release a "special guest" will be on hand at the premiere, though it's not yet known who that will be.
Nowhere Boy is a dramatization of Lennon's childhood through the beginning of his music career with The Quarrymen (later The Beatles). It covers the death of his mother, Julia Lennon, and his abandonment by his father, Alfred, in addition to difficulties growing up and fitting in at school before finally finding his place in music.
The film is based on the Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon memoir by Julia Baird, Lennon's half-sister.
You can see a trailer for Nowhere Boy here.
When You're Strange, a documentary about The Doors, will have its own Canadian premiere two hours before Nowhere Boy. It will screen at 7 p.m. at the same venue.
The Tom DiCillo-directed (Delirious, Double Whammy) documentary is narrated by Johnny Depp and follows the band's career. It features new interviews and unseen footage of the band.
When You're Strange will open in theatres on April 9.
You can get into both films with tickets and wristbands for the Canadian Music Week Film Festival, which are available through CMW's website.
One-day festival wristbands — available for $30 — will also get you into the day's music showcases, as will five-day festival wristbands, which are going for $60.
The full list of additional films screening during Canadian Music Week can be found on the CMW website.
