April Wine Being Inducted Into Canadian Music Hall Of Fame

Here's some news that means you're likely to become even more sick of "Oowatanite" and "Fast Train": April Wine will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame during this year's Juno Awards.

The Halifax-based quartet have been together for 40 years now, and will be honoured on April 18 in St. John's during the show, which will be televised on CTV.

"To be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame is a tremendous honour; and on behalf of all April Wine members, past and present, a heartfelt thank you to the Juno Awards," singer/guitarist Myles Goodwyn says.

April Wine were inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award during last year's Canadian Radio Music Awards as part of Canadian Music Week 2009.

The 2010 Juno Award nominees will be announced March 3 at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

April Wine formed in 1969 and released their self-titled debut two years later. It became a best-seller on the strength of single "Fast Train," and the band gained a larger fanbase with sophomore album On Record, which contained songs like the band's version of Hot Chocolate's "You Could Have Been A Lady" and Elton John's "Bad Side Of The Moon."

But it was April Wine's fourth album, Stand Back, which made them huge stars, going double platinum at home in Canada with singles like "Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love." The band continued to become popular internationally at the end of the '70s with songs like "Roller," which was a top 30 hit south of the 49th parallel.

The band split in 1986, but reunited in 1992, and have released four studio albums since.
