Nelly Furtado Joins Hockey Musical Cast

Would you think Nelly Furtado was a huge hockey fan? I wouldn't. I can't even see her as a hockey mom.

Nonetheless, the Canadian pop star is set to appear alongside Hawksley Workman, Dave Bidini and Grease star Olivia Newton-John in Score: A Hockey Musical. Director Michael McGowan reportedly wrote her into the script as a fanatical hockey fan.

We're curious about just how fanatical Furtado is going to get in this film. Can she look more ridiculous than your average, over-zealous, big-lunged, incredibly embarrassing hockey mom at any of Canada's arenas?

To be honest, when I'm watching it all I'm going to be wondering is when she's going to start breaking out into a spontaneous rendition of "IIIIII'm like a biiii-iiiird!" One thing's for sure: It sounds hilarious.

Score: A Hockey Musical started shooting in Toronto on Monday (Feb. 1) and wraps March 8. It follows the story of a troubled teenager who becomes a hockey star after playing pickup with rink rats played by Bidini and Workman. It opens in theatres Oct. 22.

Furtado released Mi Plan, an album full of Spanish-language tunes, last year.
