Jay Reatard Killed By Cocaine, Booze Overdose

Jay Reatard

Jay Reatard died from a cocaine and alcohol overdose, according to an autopsy revealed on Wednesday (Feb. 3).

Shelby County Medical Examiner Karen E. Chancellor said the 29-year-old musician died because of "cocaine toxicity, and that alcohol was a contributing factor" in his death, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Police were originally rumoured to be investigating Reatard's death as a homicide. So you can calm down, folks — there'll be no murder investigation with this one.

Reatard (real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) was found dead in his bed at his Memphis home around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 13. A public memorial was held on Jan. 16 at Memphis' Memorial Park Funeral Home.

To fondly remember Reatard, you can download his cover of Nirvana's "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle" which was posted to Reatard's website on Jan. 14.
