Sigur Ros On Hiatus, Frontman Prepping Solo Album

Sigur Ros
Don't expect a new Sigur Ros album any time soon.

Frontman Jon Thor "Jonsi" Birgisson plans to release his Go debut solo album on March 22, and told Spinner that contrary to recent whisperings on the internet, Sigur Ros haven't finished another album and have gone on a "break."

"We haven't got another album ready," he said. "It was just a rumour. We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again."

Birgisson also said the "break" is because "everybody in the band is having babies."

Birgisson recorded Go last summer at his house in Reykjavik, Iceland and at Connecticut's Tarquin Studios. It was co-produced by the artist, his boyfriend Alex Somers and Peter Katis (Interpol, The National). You can hear "Boy Lilikoi" from Go on Birgisson's website now.

Sigur Ros' most recent album is 2008's Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust. Last year, Birgisson released an album with Somers under the Riceboy Sleeps moniker.

Here are the songs on Go:

"Go Do"
"Animal Arithmetic"
"Tornado"
"Boy Lilikoi"
"Sinking Friendships"
"Kolnidur"
"Around Us"
"Grow Till Tall"
"Hengilas"
