OK Go Getting The People To Make Their Videos Now

OK Go have offered up a new project for fans — remixing their video.
The band, synonymous with their hit videos for "Here It Goes Again" and "A Million Ways" have decided to let fans remix not the song, but the video itself for their new single "WTF?" from their Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky album.
"The video was made in front of a green screen," said bassist Tim Nordwind. "We realized that people had access to that plug-in we used so anyone with the plug-in can remix our video and all they would need is a green screen."
The project was posted on the band's website last week asks fans to download the raw green screen footage, use video editing software and "generally mess with things to create your own version of the video." The results uploaded on YouTube will be embedded all on the band's sites.
"So far, what I've seen has looked really cool," said Nordwind. "I'm excited to see more. Our fans are really interactive and we've gotten into a dialogue with them that's based off of creative merit. Video making has been returned to its original state, which is more of an art form and less of a marketing tool."
Nordwind believes the fall of corporate forms of entertainment like MTV and record labels have contributed to the rise of more creativity in videos today.
"I think as long as our ideas are interesting and fun to make, we're happy. We're not as concerned with whether or not it'll sit on MTV or something like that; if it does then great, it's not like we would turn that down but its nice that we can concentrate with the art of video making and not the marketing aspect of it."
The band have also been also been in the news of late for a letter that was written by lead singer Damien Kulush regarding a deal their record label EMI struck with YouTube restricting users from embedding any of the band's videos.
Nordwind says Kulush's open letter was merely "a thoughtful explanation, not a complaint" and that the band understands everyone's position but "would like to see it corrected, if possible."
