Fiona Apple, Radiohead, Alexisonfire, Joel Plaskett Amongst Latest Artists Mobilized For Haiti

Fiona Apple

Yet another batch of musicians have announced special Haiti earthquake relief contributions. Here's today's latest:

The crisis in Haiti has brought Fiona Apple out of hiding.

Apple, who's seemingly spent more time shut away from the world over the last few years than she has doing anything music-related, will play a benefit show on Saturday (Jan. 23) at Los Angeles' Largo nightclub. Producer Jon Brion (Spoon) will perform with her.

Largo's three nights of Haiti relief shows also include appearances from comedians Aziz Ansari, Sarah Silverman and Ed Helms on Sunday (Jan. 24) and Jenny Lewis on Monday (Jan. 25).

Radiohead will play a Haiti benefit show on Sunday at Los Angeles' Music Box.

In a post on the band's website, drummer Phil Selway says the band are "trying to raise as much money as possible," so tickets will be up for auction via Ticketmaster until 11 a.m. PST on Saturday. All proceeds will be donated to Oxfam's Haiti relief projects. Expect to bid a minimum of $300 U.S. (about $317 Canadian).

Alexisonfire will donate all of their sales from their online store in January to Haitian relief efforts. It's not known which organization will receive the money, but the band hope their efforts will "get clean water, sanitation and medical supplies, food and temporary shelter to the people who need it most in Jacmel and Port-Au-Prince," according to their website.

American Idol's Simon Cowell has picked R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" to be covered as a Haiti relief single. Michael Buble will sing on the track, along with Rod Stewart and Leona Lewis. Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Take That and Robbie Williams have also been asked to contribute to it, according to Britain's The Sun tabloid.

R.E.M. have agreed to waive all royalties on the single, which the British government will also exempt from sales tax.

Joel Plaskett, Classified and Christina Martin are among those who will play a Haiti benefit show in Halifax on Feb. 8. The show, which is being organized by DRUM!, will also feature Lennie Gallant, Bruce Gouthrow and Charlie A'Court. Tickets are on sale through Ticket Atlantic for $20 and proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

Finally, Metric have been added to the massive Canada For Haiti telethon that airs Friday (Jan. 22) on CTV, CBC and Global. They'll play acoustic versions of their songs on the program, which airs before the U.S. Hope For Haiti telethon hosted by George Clooney and Wyclef Jean. Canada For Haiti will also feature appearances from Nelly Furtado, the Barenaked Ladies and others.

Haiti was rocked by a catastrophic 7.0-magnitude earthquake on Jan. 12, which is estimated to have killed between 50,000 to 200,000 people and affected about three million others.
