The Rise And Literal Fall Of Lady GaGa (At A Show, From Exhaustion)

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's been pretty tireless with her touring, promotion and recording over the last year or so, and you had to figure her insane work schedule might catch up with her at some point. And it did.

Gaga (real name Stefani Germanotta) was forced to cancel her show at Purdue University's Elliott Hall Of Music in West Lafayette, Ind. on Thursday (Jan. 14) night after collapsing. Gaga says she wanted to go on stage and perform despite the scare, but her handlers wouldn't let her.

"I've been crying for hours, I feel like I let my fans down 2nite," she tweeted after the show had been axed. "An hour before the show, I was feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing.

"Paramedics came to take care of me, and told me my heart-rate was irregular — as a result of exhaustion and dehydration.

"can't apologize enough for how sorry I am. I could hear my fans cheering from my dressing room, I begged everyone to let me go onstage.

"My stage has complicated mechanical elements, everyone was concerned I'd be in danger during the 2hr show, since I had passed out earlier.

"I am so devastated. I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on discomfort."

Gaga says she will return to the venue to do a make-up performance on Jan. 26, after her Monster Ball Tour ends its North American run.

All the other shows on her itinerary look to go ahead as scheduled.
