A Memphis Fox News affiliate reported Thursday (Jan. 14) that Memphis police are investigating the death of punk rocker Jay Reatard as a possible homicide.
The story has since been removed from the Fox affiliate's website, but according to the National Post, the affiliate reported police were searching for a suspect and looking for information from the public and the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau was investigating.
Police were called to Reatard's Memphis home at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 13) morning and found Reatard (real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey) dead on arrival. He was just 29 years old.
A memorial service for Reatard will be held at Memphis' Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 16) and will be open to the public.
An MP3 of Reatard covering Nirvana's "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle" was posted on the musician's website on Thursday. It's free to download. The cover's a bit eerie in a way, considering Reatard outlived Kurt Cobain (who died at 27) by two years.
