No Kids frontman Nick Krgovich has started a '50s and '60s-style pop project called Gigi, and the outfit will release their Maintenant debut album on Feb. 10 through Tomlab.
Maintenant features guest appearances from Owen Pallett, Ladyhawk's Darcy Hancock and Duffy Driediger, Karl Blau and Veda Hille, among others. The disc was produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Destroyer) and features songs inspired Phil Spector-era/Brill Building pop.
You can hear four of Gigi's songs on their MySpace page.
Krgovich and Stewart first started talking about making '60s-style pop in 2005 when Stewart bought two vintage plate reverbs and wanted to use them to record classic sounding pop. The duo invited their friends into Vancouver's Hive Studios, where Maintenant's tunes were recorded over a period of three years.
Here are the songs on Maintenant:
"No, My Heart Will Go On"
"The Hundredth Time" (w/ Duffy Driediger and Ryan Peters)
"Dreams Of Romance" (w/ Zac Pennington)
"Alone At The Pier" (w/ Rose Melberg)
"Everyone Can Tell" (w/ Ryan Beattie)
"One Woman Show" (w/ Joey Cook)
"I'm Not Coming Out Tonight" (w/ Marissa Johnson and Sydney Vermont)
"Some Second Best"
"I Can't Bring Myself To Smile" (w/ Bobby Birdman and Katy Davidson)
"Strolling Past The Old Graveyard" (w/ Karl Blau)
"The Marquee" (w/ Katie Eastburn)

"Won't Someone Tell Me" (w/ Mirah)
"I'll Quit" (w/ Owen Pallett)
