Jack White Considering Solo Album Release

Jack White

Jack White sings, plays guitar and also plays the drums in his multiple bands. He's practically a one-man band at this point with all those skills, so it's only natural that he's talking about releasing a solo album.

"In the beginning of 2009, my manager says, 'What are you going to do this year?' as if there was nothing on my plate at all. And I said, 'Don't worry. It's going to be OK,'" White recently told Rolling Stone.

White says he could play all the instruments on a possible solo album, which definitely isn't a sure thing yet and is practically an inkling of an idea. But he seems into the thought of a solo album, nonetheless.

"I've never [played every instrument on a record]," he told the magazine. "I thought about that.

"That might be the challenge — to differentiate from anything else that I've done. I've been so involved in the other projects, and I've produced them. I'd rather call it directing, you know. It seems like I've directed those albums rather than produced them. That would be the thing for me to do... think about a solo record. I wouldn't know until I get there."

In the meantime, 2010 already looks pretty busy for White. He's producing the new album by rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson. White's Third Man Records' Vault subscription service will release a double LP of every one of the label's singles that came out in 2009, which will also include Jackson's covers of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" and Johnny Kidd And The Pirates' "Shakin' All Over."

The Dead Weather have also started recording their second album, even though their Horehound debut only hit stores last July. They'll also release a new seven-inch single consisting of demos of two new tracks and will only be available through Third Man's Vault subscription service. (You can sign up for that here.)

The White Stripes will release Under Great White Northern Lights, a box set of their 2007 cross-Canada tour, on March 16.
