Santigold Producing New Devo Album

Devo
Here's the first off-the-wall collaboration of 2010: Santigold is producing the new Devo record.

The R&B singer formerly known as Santogold (informercial jeweller Santo Gold threatened legal action against her in 2008, after which she changed her name) told Paste magazine she's helming the legendary post-punk band's upcoming new album, which the band recently said they want to release this spring.

"It was amazing," Santigold told Paste. "They're just, like, my band idols. Them and The Smiths. But Devo, I made them pull out the red hats and pose for a picture."

The disc, which is said to be titled Fresh, reportedly continues what Devo were doing on their last album, 1990's Smooth Noodle Maps.

"We relistened to all of our stuff and thought about all of the things we liked best about what we did," bassist/synthesizer player Gerald Casale told The Music Slut blog in October. "We know that we can't suddenly become someone else. We can only be Devo. And we want to be the best Devo that we can be!"

Casale also told the blog Devo want to begin touring behind the record at this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in April. They're not confirmed to play the festival yet and the lineup has yet to be announced, but it should be noted Coachella tickets are on sale now through the festival's website.

Santigold released a self-titled album in 2008 when she was still known as Santogold.
