Green Day's American Idiot Musical Going To Broadway

Green Day
Green Day's American Idiot musical is definitely heading to Broadway this year, and preview performances will begin at New York's St. James Theatre on March 24.

The musical, which is based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name, was written by Green Day singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening). It premiered at Berkeley, Calif.'s Berkeley Repertory Theater and is the top-grossing show in the venue's history.

"Experiencing American Idiot onstage in Berkeley was incredible," Armstrong said in a statement. "Michael Mayer was able to bring to life the characters of American Idiot, and Tom Kitt's musical arrangements are breathtaking. We're so proud that the show is coming to Broadway!"

Playbill.com reported in November that the musical would have a Broadway run sometime in the future. The cast for American Idiot's Broadway run will be announced soon.
