Eddie Vedder Sued Over Lyric Changes To Indio Song

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is being sued by Canadian singer/songwriter Indio over lyric changes to his cover of Indio's "Hard Sun."

The New York Post reports Indio, whose real name is Gordon Peterson, claims Vedder "eroded" the track's integrity by changing the lyrics to his version of the song, which appears on 2007's Into The Wild soundtrack.

Peterson filed a lawsuit against Vedder in late December. Peterson claims Universal Music did not get his permission before it licensed the song to Vedder. Peterson wants all profits recouped from the Vedder's version of the song and what he calls "acts of infringement."

"We don't see any basis for a copyright infringement claim," Gregory Clarick, Vedder's lawyer, told the New York Post.

According to Rollingstone.com, actor Sean Penn, who directed Into The Wild — based on author Jon Krakauer's 1996 memoir of the same name — introduced Vedder to Indio's version of "Hard Sun." Vedder's cover also features vocals by former Sleater-Kinney singer/guitarist Corin Tucker.
