Bedouin Soundclash have launched their own Pirates Blend label, and its first release will be frontman Jay Malinowski's Bright Lights & Bruises debut solo album, due out Feb. 16.
Malinowski recorded the disc's 11 tracks in his apartment earlier this year, and you can hear seven of its songs on his MySpace page. Malinowski will shoot a video for "There's A Light" in Iceland with director Michael Maxxis (Moneen, The Parlor Mob) in January.
"Life Is A Gun" will be featured in the upcoming Bang Bang Club film, which stars Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions, Flags Of Our Fathers). It will open in theatres sometime next year.
Malinowski also plans to run with the Olympic Torch in Vancouver on Feb. 12.
As for Bedouin Soundclash, they plan to release the follow-up to 2007's Street Gospels late in the summer of 2010. The disc doesn't have a title or confirmed release date yet, but it will come out through Pirates Blend Records, which is being distributed by Sony Music Canada.
Sekou Lumumba, who's worked with Thornley, Ivana Santilli and Edwin & The Pressure, will spend early 2010 drumming with Bedouin Soundclash. Founding drummer Pat Pengelly left the band earlier this year. You can see a video of Lumumba in action with Agape here.
A Bedouin Soundclash remix album featuring reworkings of the band's songs by Bad Brains, King Britt, K-OS, Pigeon John and Nostalgia 77 will be released in March through Pirates Blend.
Bedouin Soundclash are also confirmed to play Canadian Music Week 2010. They'll headline a gig at Toronto's Mod Club on March 12 with special guests Charlie Winston and Micky Green. They'll also play a gig as part of the Whistler Live 2010 Winter Olympics on Feb. 14 in Whistler, B.C.
Malinowski will hit the road in February and March to promote Bright Lights & Bruises. He'll have Kinnie Starr and Michael Rault with him. Starr's fifth album, A Different Day, will be out March 2010 through her own Violet Inch Records label.
