Bowie's Ziggy Stardust Is Gayest Album Of All Time

David Bowie's The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars

David Bowie's The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars has the honour of being crowned the gayest album ever released.

Bowie's masterpiece featuring his well-known gender-bending alien character beat The Smiths' 1984 self-titled debut album to take the top spot on Out magazine's list of the greatest and gayest albums. The latter disc sits at #2, and The Smiths show up in the top 10 twice, with 1986's The Queen Is Dead coming in at #6.

Tracy Chapman, Indigo Girls, Judy Garland (what would a gay-themed list be without her?), Elton John, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Antony And The Johnsons round out the top 10.

Bowie's Diamond Dogs and Hunky Dory are also on the list, but The Smiths appeared at total of four times, since their Meat Is Murder and Hatful Of Hollow discs also show up. Morrissey's Viva Hate album is also on the list.

The list is comprised of the usual suspects, like the aforementioned artists, George Michael, Ani DiFranco, The B-52s, Queen and others. But it's pretty stylistically diverse, since it includes everything from indie rock and folk rock to disco and pop.

Inexplicably, Nirvana's Nevermind appears at #67. Yeah, we're scratching our heads over that one. We'd understand In Utero, what with the "everyone is gay" lyric in "All Apologies," but we're pretty confused over this one.
