Rivers Cuomo Released From Hospital, Going Home

Rivers Cuomo

Weezer's Rivers Cuomo has been cleared to leave the injured reserve, after suffering a small cut to the spleen and a punctured lung in a bus crash last Sunday (Dec. 6).

"After walking with and without a cane and getting some good hematocrit blood test results on Thursday, Rivers was given the go ahead to be released from the hospital!" Weezer pal Karl Koch wrote on the band's blog on Friday (Dec. 11).

The blog entry was accompanied by an image of Cuomo looking recovered, sitting upright in a chair strumming a carbon-fibre guitar.

Koch says Cuomo left the Albany, N.Y. hospital on Friday. But due to his still-healing lung, he was restricted from flying due to the air-pressure changes.

That means he had to make the 4,500 km journey to Los Angeles by — you guessed it — hopping back on a tour bus.

But Koch says despite the long bus ride Cuomo will be well taken care of.

"Were taking a warmer southerly route to avoid bad weather, and Rivers will be using a cozy lower bunk for sleeping — none of that back lounge bedroom stuff for him!" he wrote.

"It will be cool — weve [sic] got seasons 1 and 2 of 'Mad Men' to watch, some books to read, a freezer full of organic entrees and the bus is wired for internet, so work can continue uninterrupted. The only thing were missing is Burt Reynolds in a 1978 Pontiac Trans-Am to run point for us!"

That, and a Weezer snuggie.

In a separate blog post written on Saturday (Dec. 12), Koch wrote that while nothing's for sure yet, it looks like Weezer will have to reschedule most of their January shows so Cuomo can make a full recovery.

In the meantime, here are Weezer's upcoming shows:

Jan. 9 San Francisco, CA @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
Jan. 11 Irvine, CA @ University Of California-Irvine Bren Events Center
Jan. 13 La Jolla, CA @ RIMAC Arena
Jan. 15 Phoenix, AZ @ Dodge Theatre
May 2 East Rutherford, NJ @ New Meadowlands Stadium
