Besnard Lakes Are Roaring Night In March

The Besnard Lakes
Here's another one for you to add to your "Polaris Music Prize 2010 potentials" list.

Montreal indie rockers The Besnard Lakes will return with their third album, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night, on March 9 through Outside Music.

The Besnard Lakes recorded the follow-up to 2007's Polaris Music Prize short listed The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse at singer/guitarist Jace Lasek's Breakglass Studios on the same vintage 1968 Neve germanium mixing console that was used to cut parts of Led Zeppelin's 1975 Physical Graffiti album.

If that didn't sound crazy enough, a press release describes The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night as "a twisting chronicle of spies, double agents, novelists and aspiring rock gods turned violent.

"Loyalty, dishonor, love, and hatred are all seen through the eyes of two spies, communicating through short wave in code and fighting a war that may or may not be real."

The Besnard Lakes will preface the album's release with a 12-inch vinyl single for "Albatross" on Feb. 9. It will come with an exclusive B-side, "Four Long Lines."

Lacek formed The Besnard Lakes with his wife, bassist Olga Goreas, in 2003. The band released their Volume 1 debut the same year, and followed it with The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse four years later. The Besnard Lakes also include drummer Kevin Liang, guitarist/singer Steve Raegele, keyboardist Nicole Lizee and guitarist Richard White.

Here's what's on The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night:

"Like The Ocean, Like The Innocent; Pt. 2: The Innocent"
