Lenny Kravitz says rumours he will replace Steven Tyler as Aerosmith's singer are untrue.
Kravitz took to his Twitter on Monday (Dec. 7) to shoot the whisperings down, saying he couldn't accept such an offer even if it existed.
"As much as I am flattered that Aerosmith's camp would consider me to front the band, Steven Tyler is a family friend, and no voice could ever take the place of his," Kravitz tweeted. "I hope the band stays together. They are classic."
Tyler's status in the band has been subject of much debate over the last few months. It's been rumoured the band want to replace him and that a rift has grown between him and guitarist Joe Perry.
John Kalodner, Aerosmith's former A&R representative, recently told Rolling Stone magazine that the band were undergoing significant difficulties, said that Tyler might want to go solo and the band could replace him with someone else. He haphazardly name-dropped Kravitz in the interview, which set the rumours off.
"I was talking to [producer/songwriter] Marty Fredericksen the other night about this just artistically because he co-wrote 'Jaded' and worked with them for the last 10 years or so," Kalodner told the magazine.
"We were talking about how no one can replace Steven Tyler, but the only person he said and I agreed with that could even make Aerosmith anything would be Lenny Kravitz — which was a unique idea Marty had."
Tyler fell backwards off stage during a show in Sturgis, S.D. last summer, breaking his shoulder and hurting his head and neck. His injuries forced Aerosmith to cancel their entire summer tour.
Last month, it was reported Tyler is no longer talking to anyone in the band and Perry said Tyler had "quit." The very same day, Tyler showed up on stage with Perry at one of the guitarist's solo shows and said rumours he had left the band were untrue.
Aerosmith have reportedly become concerned that Tyler, who has been sober for over 20 years after struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, has started drinking again. He was spotted purchasing alcohol earlier this year, but said it was for someone else.
