Busta Rhymes fans are well accustomed to the eccentric MC's bouts of spontaneous rage. But unfortunately, Alex Duncan isn't a Busta fan.
Duncan, 32, was awarded $75,000 U.S. (about $79,000 Canadian) last week stemming from an incident in which he says Rhymes, 37, attacked him with two water bottles during a concert he attended in 2003.
Duncan says he initially attended the concert to see Fabolous, according to the New York Post. Duncan stood up to leave during Busta's set when it was announced that Fabolous had cancelled his appearance. Being more Mike Richards than Richard Ashcroft, the Brooklyn, N.Y. M.C. didn't like that one bit.
In the melee that ensued, Rhymes (real name Trevor Smith), confronted Duncan, who explained he hadn't come to see Rhymes.
Rhymes was having none of it.
"You didn't hear me say, 'Get down?'" Rhymes reportedly shouted, according to the New York Post. "I'm not good for you?"
Apparently not, as Duncan replied, "I don't got to move."
That, of course, didn't sit well with Rhymes, who reportedly responded by spraying Duncan with water from a water bottle and chucking more two water bottles at him.
Six years after the incident, the consequences of the attack haven't left Duncan. In a court hearing, he says he suffered psychological damage, and Rhymes occupies his nightmares.
The bad dreams haven't stopped for Duncan, who also said he was punched by Rhymes' bodyguard at the event, according to the New York Post.
Duncan was eventually awarded $75,000 U.S. after Rhymes failed to show up to any of their court hearings (apparently, sending your bodyguard to court doesn't suffice).
"It looks like we busted up Busta's rhyme," joked Duncan's lawyer.
They're not the first. In the past, Rhymes has been charged with assaulting a man who spit on his car, attacking his former driver over a paycheque and beating up autograph seekers. That's saying nothing of his weapons possession charges — he's been caught driving around with a machete, too.
No wonder Duncan's having nightmares.
