Choke's Foreword

Turning the last page on the year 2009, we here at CHARTattack are revving up for our retrospective of the year.

As an added bonus, there's those best of for the decade, too. Well, 10 years ago, we had added incentive for our sentimentality: we could create some best of lists for the century and the millennium. It was pure 'list' heaven.

The campus chart for the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 2, 1999 saw Stereolab's Cobra And Phases Group Play Voltage In The Milky Night, an old favourite, recapture the #1 spot after being deposed for a week by Danko Jones' My Love Is Bold.

SIANspheric's Else rose five places to land at #2, followed by Sloan's Between The Bridges, which rose two places to #3. Handsome Boy Modelling School's So... How's Your Girl? remained at #4 for a second week. My Love Is Bold tumbled all the way down to #5.

The week's chart featured a couple of statistically significant events surrounding the highest debut and the long serving title on the campus chart.

Liquified's Ultimate State Of Bass was highest debut of the week. It entered the campus chart at #40, followed by Jersey's The Battle's Just Begun at #41 and Breakbeat Era's Ultra-Obscene at #43. This was one of the lowest entry points for a Chart Sizzler winner on record.

Stereolab's Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage In The Milky Night's logged 11 weeks on the chart, longer than any other album's time that week. It was first time that the #1 album also held the mark as the longest serving disc on the campus chart.

Although there were few new entries on the chart, there were some substatntial rises among the incumbent titles. Choke's Foreword had the greatest rise, jumping 36 places to to land at #11. This boost beat both The Charlatans UK's Us And Us Only, which rose 25 spots to #12, and June Of 44's In The Fishtank 6, which had a 30-place rise to #13.

Choke saw their four releases appear on the campus chart from 1998 to 2005. Needless To Say lasted seven weeks in 1998, peaking at #25. Foreword remained on the chart for eight weeks, peaking at this week's #11. There's A Story To This Moral only charted for two weeks in 2002, hitting #33 in its second week. Slow Fade Or: How I Learned To Question Infinity survived for seven weeks in 2005, rising to #32.
