Brown Brigade Going Online Only (Mostly), Changing Sound

It's been a while since we've heard from former Sum 41 guitarist Dave Baksh's Brown Brigade metal project.
In September 2008, it was announced Baksh would no longer be the band's lead singer and would only play guitar with the band in the future. The band began looking for a singer to take over vocal duties.
It's not known if the band have found a new singer, but in a Nov. 29 MySpace blog entry, Baksh wrote that the band will mostly release music online in the future, with exceptions for sporadic vinyl and split EP/album releases.
Their music will also be a lot different, too.
"When we started the idea for this band the industry was not well equipped for a strictly online presence," Baksh wrote. "Songs will now consist of a lineup we ultimately decide. So we won't be sticking to standard bullshit.
"We will also write a lot more than metal so be prepared and don't be a pussy when it comes to the 'out there' stuff we make."
Brown Brigade had planned to record some punk, funk and reggae EPs, but Baksh now says those aren't happening, according to the forum on the There's No Solution Sum 41/Brown Brigade/Organ Thieves website.
Baksh also recently told the There's No Solution website that the band will likely become what's mostly a studio act and not do much touring in the future. He said the point of this was to allow for more collaborations with guest musicians in the future, and the band would release songs for free instead of putting out full albums.
Also, being off the road means they'll be able to avoid hostile metalheads and punks.
"When we tried to make BB a fulltime gig we found we were met with a lot of hostility from metal elitists, most of them born post 1990. I hate to sound like an old man but if you think you know metal you can go fuck yourself," Baksh wrote in the Nov. 29 MySpace post.
"We also got some hostility from punkers as well. This surprised me as a particular group of 'punx' from our Pennywise tour told us to 'Eat shit and die.' This was said right as they were entering an H2 driven by what appeared to be their mother. I should mention they took special care in making sure their mohawks didn't hit the ceiling. I can understand it probably costs a lot to get it done at the salon, not to mention the price of hair fudge these days.
"We also know many of you are saying 'Whoah man ease up.' I think we have spent too much time 'easing up.' My hippie blood is boiling so eat a dick."
Good to see eating a dick is still a MySpace-based diss. K-OS would be proud.
Baksh has largely spent 2009 concentrating on Organ Thieves, his soul-influenced hard rock band with Brown Brigade guitarist Chuck Coles.
