Sarah Harmer Recording New Album

Sarah Harmer

Sarah Harmer is finally recording the follow-up to 2005's I'm A Mountain.

While there's been no official statement from Harmer herself, singer/songwriter and session musician Julie Fader says some new material is in the works.

"Did some singing with my friend sarah harmer in the studio last night. Her new songs are beautiful," she tweeted on Thursday (Dec. 3).

Harmer hasn't released a studio album since I'm A Mountain, which was short listed for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize. Given her rich musical background and extremely talented bandmates it could potentially give her the edge again in the 2010 nomination round.

We haven't heard much from Harmer musically, though she has been extremely active in the number of political campaigns she supports.

Harmer is most known for founding PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) in 2005. It's an organization dedicated to protecting the Niagara Escarpment from a proposed gravel development that would have resulted in having part of the escarpment removed.

She and her band toured the escarpment, hiked the Bruce Trail and performed at town halls along the way with their message. In 2006, she released the sessions on a DVD dubbed Escarpment Blues.
