Sure, we already knew that Guitar Hero and Rock Band appealed to college slackers. It was only a matter of time before Activision caught on, too.
Their latest batch of downloadable tracks for Guitar Hero V and Band Hero include newly reunited campus rock favourites Pavement. Gamers will now be able to jam along with "Cut Your Hair," the lead single from Pavement's 1994 sophomore album, Crooked Rain Crooked Rain, as part of the three song Indie Rock Pack.
One-hit-wonders gone awry Nada Surf also contribute "Hi Speed Soul" from 2003's Let Go, and Texan indie staples Spoon's "Sister Jack," from 2005's Gimme Fiction, is also in the pack.
Guitar Hero V already featured songs by karaoke favourites like Spacehog, Thin Lizzy and John Mellencamp. Now, it looks like Activision is now bidding for real estate in the corduroy and vintage tees market.
Other downloadable track packs include Fall Of Troy and OneRepublic sets as well as the Celebrity New Years Track Pack, which will feature Taylor Swift and Maroon 5 songs.
The packs will cost 440 Microsoft Points for Xbox users, 500 Wii points or $5.49 via the PlayStation store. They will be available on Dec. 22, which should keep those miniature plastic guitar controllers busy through the new year.
