Four years is a long time to wait.
It's the length a U.S. presidential term. It's the age of Mike Tyson's child, Exodus. According to Money-Zine.com's calculator, a mid-range car will have depreciated roughly $15,000 in that time. And that's precisely how long Four Tet fans have had to wait for a new full-length album.
But don't fret: The wait ends when Four Tet, otherwise known as genre-morphing British producer Kieran Hebden, releases his sixth studio disc, There Is Love In You, on Jan. 25.
The folktronica pioneer has been busy since the release of his last album, 2006's critically adored Everything Ecstatic. Along with 2006's Ringer EP, a straightforward techno album, he has collaborated with several high-profile partners, including free jazz drummer Steve Reid, Burial and composer David Arnold.
Four Tet's otherwordly remixing skills were also a hot commodity, with Bloc Party, Battles and frequent tourmates Radiohead all recently lining up for the Four Tet treatment.
But if we've learned to expect the unexpected from Four Tet. There Is Love In You might be a melting pot of electronica, jazz, hip hop, IDM, and folk. But more likely, it'll be a complete surprise.
