Final Fantasy
Owen Pallett, better known as Final Fantasy, is very much in demand these days.

Since the release of 2006's Polaris Music Prize-winning He Poos Clouds, he has lent his immaculate violin abilities to records by some of the biggest names in music, including Fucked Up, Grizzly Bear, the Pet Shop Boys and The Mountain Goats. Call him indie's rock's precocious answer to T.I.

Sometimes, his excellent solo work gets lost in the shuffle. But luckily for Pallett fans, Domino Records is releasing his new album, Heartlands, on Jan. 12, and he'll be supporting it with a Canadian and U.S. tour throughout the winter.

Pallett explained his newest release isn't only about Canada's prairie provinces, but also about the concept of home — an omnipresent issue for a busy touring musician such as himself.

"I like the title Heartland, it has a double meaning," he told Stereogum's blog.

"Along with 'homeland,' the word seems to signify feelings of familiarity and comfort, but most often, it's used with a sentiment of xenophobia and/or a sense of entitlement."

Pallett will take a short break before hitting the road again after concluding his current tour with The Mountain Goats on Dec. 2. Starting with a record release party in Toronto on Jan. 12, he'll bounce across eastern Canada, making stops in Guelph, Ont., Kingston, Ont., Montreal, Wakefield, Que. and Halifax.
