Here's something that probably won't be surprising to Echo & The Bunnymen fans: Frontman Ian McCulloch still hates U2.
McCulloch recently told New York magazine he thinks U2's music is "immature."
"Bands all say they want to be as big as U2, but weirdly no one ever says they're influenced by them," McCulloch told the magazine. "That's because there's nothing there, really.
"They've got good tunes, and you can see that it works on 14-year-olds. But I can't see mature people or kids, who are looking for something, something deep — something that you just know it's art and it's going to change your life — caring. For U2, it's always flag-waving and 'Yippie.'"
I'm now wondering how to explain all the older people at U2's show at Toronto's Rogers Centre in September....
McCulloch also didn't have very good things to say about Bruce Springsteen.
"I saw him at Glastonbury and it's like, 'What are you doing, climbing into the crowd?'" he told New York.
"It's not a football match, it's about making someone see the light — a proper inside light," he said.
Last year, McCulloch called U2 "spud peelers" and said U2 want to be like "all them cunts who no one really likes," such as Bob Geldof and Sting.
