Feist, Finger Eleven, Gordon Lightfoot, Stompin' Tom Connors, Rush and 54-40 are among those who received awards at the Society Of Composers, Authors And Music Publishers Of Canada's (SOCAN) awards ceremony on Monday (Nov. 23) night in Toronto.
A number of Canadian artists were honoured for their songs reaching the 100,000-airplay mark on Canadian radio.
Tom Cochrane was recognized for five of his songs reaching this benchmark. 54-40 received two awards for "Ocean Pearl" and "I Go Blind" achieving this stat and Gordon Lightfoot was also recognized for "Race Among The Ruins."
Other artists were given SOCAN Awards for songs that were played the most on Canadian radio in 2008.
Feist and Hedley received pop/rock music awards for "1234" and "For The Nights I Can't Remember," respectively, while Finger Eleven took home a pop/rock award for "I'll Keep Your Memory Vague" and won the international song award for "Paralyzer." Kardinal Offishall's collaboration with Akon, "Dangerous," won the urban music award and Corb Lund garnered the roots/folk music award.
Connors was given the lifetime achievement award for excellence throughout his career, while Rush took the international achievement award.
