Tommy Lee has started a project that's all kinds of nu-metal-tastic, and it's called Bezerk.
At any rate, Bezerk includes drummers from several nu-metal bands, including Velvet Revolver's Matt Sorum, Incubus' Jose Pasillas and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith (who it seems will play with just about anybody at this point). The group also includes Godsmack (I know. I forgot they existed, too) singer Sully Erna.
Bezerk will make their live debut at the Guitar Center Drum-Off '09 Grand Finals at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theatre on Jan. 8. The group is an "exclusive project commissioned by" Guitar Center, according to tommylee.tv.
The Guitar Center Drum-Off will also feature a tribute to John Bonham that will see his son, Jason Bonham, perform with Tool's Danny Carey and Mastodon's Brann Dailor. John Bonham will also be inducted into Guitar Center's Drum Legends along with former Miles Davis and Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer Billy Cobham.
Five undiscovered drummers will compete in front of the crowd at the event and a panel of judges for the chance to win more than $40,000 and the title of Drum-Off Champion. Goody.
Tickets for to the Guitar Center Drum-Off '09 Grand Finals are on sale now and will cost you a mere $10 U.S.
This isn't the only thing Lee is doing lately. Earlier this year, he announced his late '90s nu-metal project, Methods Of Mayhem, had reunited and were working on a new album. It's called Public Mayhem and it's out sometime next year.
