U2 recently announced they would play Montreal next year — no, not Olympic Stadium but the Hippodrome — and have now confirmed they've added a second show at the same venue.
U2 will play the Hippodrome on July 16 and 17. Tickets to the latter gig go on sale to the general public on Nov. 30. A special pre-sale for U2.com subscribers begins Tuesday (Nov. 24) and subscribers will get an e-mail with more details.
The July 16 show has already sold out. About 70,000 people will attend the gig.
The choice of location seems a bit odd considering Olympic Stadium can host big concerts. But according to a report last week in Montreal's The Gazette, U2 will infuse $3 million from their own pockets towards the location to hold between 60,000 to 80,000 people. The venue will be demolished and become a real estate project after the shows.
In related news, U2 will headline the opening night of the 40th Glastonbury Festival on June 25. It will be the band's lone British date so far next year.
U2 released a remastered version of The Unforgettable Fire last month, one in a series of reissues of earlier studio albums.
