Brian Borcherdt Releases Free New Album

While many people know Brian Borcherdt for his work in the dance/noise group Holy Fuck, he also has side many people don't know — the introspective, melodic side he showcases in his solo work.

Some of these solo recordings and at-home demos, Torches (& The Ward Colorado Demos), have been released by Borcherdt on Hand Drawn Dracula as a free digital download. It's available here.

The demos were recorded between 2004 and 2006 in Toronto, Yarmouth, N.S. and Ward, Colo. and they've been both nearly lost, and nearly left incomplete. During their recording, Holy Fuck were on a tour high, traveling across the country, often leaving the tracks unfinished and forgotten. The ever-changing tracks and demos were reworked and re-examined every time Borcherdt had a chance to go back to them.

The laborious process of putting these recordings together was nearly lost forever last New Year's, when Borcherdt left a trunk full of everything he had ever recorded in the back of a cab that pulled away before he took it out. This near disappearance gave Borcherdt the impetus he needed to finish the recordings, and he decided they would be given away free online.

Hand Drawn Dracula has also created a free mixtape featuring Borcherdt, Julie Fader, By Divine Right, Off The International Radar (with Holy Fuck). Contrived and Bishop Morocco to coincide with the release of these digital downloads. It's available here.
