Punk rock godmamma
Joan Jett seems the antithesis of anything to do with Barbie or Mattel, the company responsible for Barbie, but Mattel is issuing Jett,
Debbie Harry and
Cyndi Lauper dolls nonetheless.
The dolls will be available in December as part of a "Ladies Of The 80s" collection, and will run you between $34.99 to $35.99 U.S. (about $37 to $38 Canadian) at various retailers, according to
Paste magazine.
The Jett doll is decked out in black and is wearing red Converse Chucks, while Lauper sports a red dress and Harry looks like she did when she was still singing with Blondie.
Rather interestingly, all three ladies are queer icons. Hmm...
Jett is currently involved with
The Runaways, a film about the first all-female punk band of the same name she founded in the mid-1970s. Kristen Stewart (
Twilight) will portray her in the film, which is being helmed by Canadian director Floria Sigismondi (Marilyn Manson, David Bowie). It will be released next year.
