Woodhands
Paper Bag Records will celebrate its seventh birthday this year. But rather than asking for its mandated gifts of wool-and-copper, the label's impressive roster of musicians have released a ridiculous free covers album as a gift to their fans.

The collection features Winter Gloves, Slim Twig and The Acorn among other Paper Bag notables. The covers range from popular tracks like Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to less known gems like Nicolas Makelberge's "Dying In Africa." Some, like Josh Reichmann's version of Bats For Lashes' "Daniel" and Woodhands' rendition of Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue," have already been released, while others are only now being revealed.

Paper Bag Records has released more than 49 albums (and a whole host of digital downloads and limited edition vinyl) since the label began. It was seven years ago that they released Broken Social Scene's You Forgot It In People (can you believe it's only been seven years?) and have since proven to be Toronto's very own little label that could.

The album is available free of charge here.

The label will officially celebrate its birthday this Friday (Nov. 20) in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Theatre with You Say Party! We Say Die! and Little Girls.

Here's what's on The Seven Year Itch:

CFCF — "How Bizarre" (OMC)
Winter Gloves — "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana)
Woodhands — "Electric Avenue" (Eddy Grant)
Sally Shapiro — "Dying in Africa" (Nicolas Makelberge)
You Say Party! We Say Die! — "Falling Out" (Rick Agnew)
Josh Reichmann — "Daniel" (Bat For Lashes)
Laura Barrett — "Gamma Ray" (Beck)
Rock Plaza Central — "I Want You" (Bob Dylan)
The Acorn — "Strange Animal" (Gowan)
Little Girls — "Heinz" (Artery)
Slim Twig — "Behold A Lady" (Outkast)
Under Byen — "Du er min ojesten" (Peter Malberg)
