There are rumours floating around that The Who will play Super Bowl XLIV on Feb. 7 in Miami, but the band have deflected such talk.
Sports Illustrated online columnist Jimmy Traina announced the band would play the halftime show during the game, which will be played at Miami's Dolphin Stadium.
But The Who don't want you to get fooled again and say that's not the case. The band posted this one line statement on their website on Friday (Nov. 13):
"Rumours circulating that The Who are going to play at the Super Bowl in Miami in February are pure speculation."
The NFL have nothing to say about the matter. An NFL spokesperson told Sports Illustrated, "When we have something to announce, we'll announce it."
Earlier this year, Who guitarist Pete Townshend said he was working on a new musical, and some of its songs could end up on a new Who album that would be out in 2010. Singer Roger Daltrey also said earlier this year he wants to tour with the band in 2010.
