Matt Good Takes Tamiflu

Matt Good says he's been taking Tamiflu to prevent contracting the H1N1, or swine flu, virus.

In a post on his website written last Saturday (Nov. 7), Good revealed he'd been taking the antiviral drug as a precaution.

Good suffers from Sarcoidosis, a condition that causes inflammation usually in the lungs and lymph nodes. He says that means he's on the list of those under the age of 65 who are most at risk of getting swine flu, and therefore are near or at the top of the swine flu vaccination list.

"I carry Tamiflu with me just in case, and have already been on it once after being diagnosed with pneumonia some weeks ago as a precaution," Good wrote.

Despite this, Good says he hasn't yet been vaccinated against swine flu, and has also been doing other things to reduce his chances of getting the bug.

"Given the shortage of the vaccine in BC right now, and even though I am in a high risk category, there are those that need it more, which is why I have refrained from getting it thus far, and also why I have not been signing anything after shows on the tour," he wrote. "Such a simple precaution is common sense, and while it sucks for some fans, it's the right move."

So if you show up to one of Good's gigs in support of the recently released Vancouver, don't be bummed if you can't get him to sign a copy of the CD. Nobody likes a show cancellation.

"As for what will transpire in the weeks ahead I can't say, but one unfortunate result is that I will probably continue not signing things after shows and remain as sequestered as I have been over the last week," Good wrote. "People have paid good money to see me perform and that is my primary focus — staying healthy so that I can."
