Steven Tyler Leaves Aerosmith

Aerosmith
Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has left the band, according to guitarist Joe Perry.

Perry told the Las Vegas Sun he'd heard Tyler had left the band last week, but hadn't had the chance to ask him about it because they have "no contact" with Tyler most of the time.

"Steven quit as far as I can tell," Perry told the newspaper. "I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever."

Perry did not say whether the band would continue with a different singer or they would split up if Tyler had indeed left the band.

"I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch," he told the Las Vegas Sun.

Aerosmith were forced to cancel their entire North American summer tour this year when Tyler fell backwards off stage and broke his shoulder. A few days later, Tyler — who has battled drug and alcohol addiction throughout his career, but has been sober for nearly 20 years — was photographed buying alcohol, but he said it wasn't for himself.

Tensions between Tyler and the band reportedly grew after a Nov. 1 gig in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, after which the band started talking about touring with someone else.

"Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him — he's one of a kind," guitarist Brad Whitford is said to have told a British reporter, according to Rollingstone.com. "But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?"
