New Leonard Cohen Biography Coming

A new Leonard Cohen biography, appropriately titled Leonard Cohen: Hallelujah: A New Biography, is scheduled for release Dec. 1.
The book, written by Tim Footman, aims to chronicle what the author calls Cohen's "revival" period over the last two years. It focuses on the new demographic he has been reaching (goths and fine arts students?) since gaining exposure at high profile U.K. gigs and festivals, as well as seeing two versions of his famous song "Hallelujah" competing in 2008 for the UK's Christmas #1 and #2 chart spots.
Although Cohen has a repertoire that spans decades, many of his newest fans are barely aware of his huge body of work, a phenomenon Footman explores in the book.
Hallelujah details early aspects of Cohen's life, focusing on his transition from a child growing up in Quebec to his life as a young poet and author. It also examines the release of his first collection in 1956, and his breaking into the world of music at age 37. The book further includes exclusive details of his new material that is being produced for the first time in a decade while Cohen continues to tour.
Hallelujah promises many new interviews with key associates of Cohen's, and new research providing readers with the most up to date information available.
Cohen has not had a biography released since 1998.
