Lady Gaga Red Carpet Appearance A Literal Heartbreaker

Lady GaGa

It seems bizarreness follows Lady GaGa wherever she goes, and this week is no different.

New York City celebrity photographer A. J. Sokalner died Monday night on the red carpet moments after shooting photos of the musician who was attending the Accessories Council Awards at Cipriani, a restaurant in the city.

According to the New York Examiner, the photographer — one of about two dozen taking pictures along the red carpet — suffered a heart attack and fell into the crowd. He was then rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Brian Lamb, another photographer, says he was standing near Sokalner when he saw him collapse, believing he had just fainted.

"By the time I saw him, he was already blue and people were starting to give him CPR," Lamb told the newspaper.

A source told the Access Hollywood television program that Sokalner — who was in his late 50s and had been in poor health recently — was "packing up his cameras and he died of what is believed to be a fairly major heart attack."

Early reports of the incident alleged GaGa was responsible for the death but those reports were quickly removed.

The death comes as Lady GaGa is about to mount her own North American headlining tour after her co-headlining jaunt with Kanye West was nixed. Her tour will kick off with shows in Montreal and Toronto.

In a strange coincidence, the death coincides with the singer's new agreement promoting her own brand of in-ear headphones entitled Heartbeats. The headphones are part of the Beats By Dr. Drew Family product line.

Lady Gaga will release a deluxe edition of her The Fame debut album, The Fame Monster, on Nov. 23.
