Deftones bassist Chi Cheng will have a benefit concert thrown in his honour, nearly a year after being involved in a horrific car accident that originally put him in a coma and has since left him semi-conscious.
Cheng's bandmates are using the concert to try and raise the money necessary to pay for his overwhelming medical bills, which is insurance will not cover.
Deftones will hold the show at Los Angeles' Avalon on Nov. 19. Tickets go on sale Friday (Oct. 30) with all proceeds going to the Chi Ling Cheng Special Needs Trust that has been set up by the family to help pay for Cheng's medical bills.
Cheng's brother recently wrote in an online post that Chi Cheng's
insurance company stopped paying for his treatment in mid-January. His
mother later posted that Cheng's house was returned to the bank and his
dog was given away.
The band will also launch a series of online auctions and an online store to raise some money for Cheng and will provide many more opportunities for fans and benefactors to donate to the trust. The Deftones have some friends who are going to be chipping in to help the band solicit donations.
Korn bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu recently joined forces with members of Metallica, Slipknot, Machine Head, Disturbed, Killswitch Engine and Hatebreed to record an instrumental track to benefit Cheng.
"A Song For Chi" is available online
along with a music video for free, but the artists encourage you to
provide a donation, as 100 per cent of the profits will go to helping
his recovery.
The following musicians appears on the recording:
Jim Root and Sid Wilson (Slipknot)
Ray Luzier, Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, & James "Munky" Shaffer (Korn)
Dave McClain (Machine Head)
Robert Trujillo (Metallica)
Clint Lowery & Morgan Rose (Sevendust)
Brian "Head" Welch (ex-Korn)
Wayne Lozinak (Hatebreed)
Wuv (P.O.D.)
Mike Wengren (Disturbed)
Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engine)
