Finalists For CBC Radio 2's Great Canadian Song Quest Announced

Joel Plaskett
Joel Plaskett, Chantal Kreviazuk, Hawksley Workman, Hey Rosetta! and Martha Wainwright are among the finalists for CBC Radio 2's Great Canadian Song Quest.

The contest began in September, when Canadians were able to suggest their favourite Canadian location they thought should be immortalized in song. From there, a full list of locations was posted on CBC Radio 2's website, and visitors were able to vote for their locations of choice.

The 13 artists listed below (narrowed down from a list of 65 which was posted online for voting) will record specially commissioned songs about the 13 winning locations. They'll have four weeks to write a song about their respective location before the full playlist is revealed on Nov. 23.

"Canadians all over the country have been passionately campaigning and voting for the places that mattermost to them for weeks," Mark Steinmetz, CBC Radio 2's director of music programming, says. "It's a thrill to see the final locations that Canadians have chosen, as well as revealing the artists who will write the 13 new pieces."
