Google Launching New Music Service

Google seems bound and determined to rule the entire internet, and it will appropriately launch its own music service soon.

Wired magazine reports the service is rumoured to be dubbed "Google Music," "Google Audio" or "One Box." We'll find out what it will officially be called when an announcement is made next Wednesday (Oct. 28), for which OneRepublic and members of Linkin Park will be on hand.

What is known is that the service will link to iLike and Lala, and Google does not have plans to become a music retailer to compete with Amazon, iTunes or anyone else at this point in time.

The service will include music from the four major labels and all of iLike and Lala's independent music content, according to Wired. At this point, it sounds more like an online search program than downloading service, since iLike and Lala both retail albums and MP3s on their respective sites.

In the meantime, if you're curious about the service, you can check out some "leaked screenshots" over at the TechCrunch blog.
