MONTREAL — Polaris Prize 2009 recipient and Toronto hardcore rockers Fucked Up will headline this year's M For Montreal showcase this November.
Alongside Montreal acts Malajube, DJ Champion & His G-Strings, Melissa Auf Der Maur and Misstress Barbara, Fucked Up will close the M For Metropolis event at the Metropolis venue on Nov. 21.
This is the second year the M For Montreal showcase — where music industry types from across North America and Europe get a chance to check out hotly-tipped Montreal bands in a leisurely environment — has included acts from outside Montreal.
Toronto's The Rural Alberta Advantage and DD/MM/YYYY, British Columbia's You Say Party! We Say Die!, and Charlottetown's Two Hours Traffic will also get a chance to show off their skills in front of delegates during the smaller showcases on Nov. 19 and 20 at Cabaret Juste Pour Rire.
Of course, there will also be a multitude of Montreal acts to contend with, including Parlovr, Think About Life, Final Flash and Le Matos. There will also be a separate afternoon francophone showcase starring much-hyped groups La Patere Rose and Orange Orange, along with Marie-Pierre Arthur, Geraldine and Caracol.
It wouldn't be a Montreal festival without an afterparty, so Jordan Dare, Peer Pressure DJ's A-Rock and Hatchmatik, and Seb Diamond and Phil AD will all spin Nov. 21 at the SAT.
It's been a good year for the four year old festival, which managed to find a new sponsor in the wake of funding cuts by the federal government. The first-ever outdoor summer M On The Quays festival attracted 10,000 music fans to Old Port this past Labour Day weekend and M For Montreal has a showcase going down at CMJ in New York City Wednesday night with Duchess Says, Think About Life, Malajube, We Are Wolves, Beast and Silly Kissers.
