Woodpigeon Releasing New Album

Woodpigeon will release the follow-up to the internationally acclaimed Treasury Library Canada on Jan. 12, 2010 via Boompa Records.

Die Stadt Muzikanten is the Calgary band's third full-length release by the band who are led by songwriter Mark Hamilton. The album was inspired by an extended stay Hamilton took in Germany and the lives of his ancestors. He found himself intrigued by memories of his childhood, and a place once inhabited by his grandparents, to whom this album is being dedicated.

"I started thinking in terms of couples," he explains of his time in Berlin, "of people coming and going, of walls and windows. Images of boating across the ocean to an unknown new life, and how so many of the movements I took run in the opposite direction of theirs."

Woodpigeon won the 2009 NXNE Galaxie Rising Star Award, and are also included in the CBC Radio 2 "Great Canadian Song Quest" competition as one of five artists from Alberta who may be selected to compose a song inspired by Canadian locations.

Die Stadt Muzikanten is available for pre-order via the Boompa online store. The band are offering bonus MP3s, drawings with each song, and the first 100 receiving a poster of Jeff Kulak's artwork with each pre-order.
