Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian have joined forces — not for a music side project, but for a club that will have a capacity of 200. The club's first official event is on Nov. 7.
The duo will open Dead Man's Hand in November, their own bar which "will feature none of the trendy decor, snobby attitude and outlandish prices so prevalent in Vegas."
"We want this to be a place that we would want to hang out in," Ian says. "There's a huge segment of the music audience that likes to go out but doesn't want to go to places that only play Lil Wayne and Lady GaGa and charge $750 for a bottle of vodka. We want to be the opposite of that."
Cantrell says he always wanted to have a place to chill in Las Vegas and believes this will be a "fun place for everybody to hang." Drinks will also include one named after the bar (whisky and spicy ginger ale) as well as Black Tooth Grin (Crown Royal and Coca-Cola). The latter is late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell's favourite drink.
Both musicians say the nightclub will have a couple of house bands and occasionally will see the Dead Man's Hand Band perform, featuring both Ian and Cantrell as well as some other well-known but still unnamed musicians. Ian says the band will play various covers during those sporadic gigs.
Cantrell is currently on tour with Alice In Chains, supporting their new album Black Gives Way To Blue. Ian, meanwhile, will see Lobo: Highway To Hell released on Nov. 4, a two-issue prestige format comic book series for DC Comics.
Anthrax are expected to release a new studio album sometime in the spring of 2010.
