Caribou's Dan Snaith says he's nearly finished the follow-up to 2007's
Polaris Music Prize-winning Andorra.
Snaith says the album is much different from his last release, because he doesn't want people to pigeonhole him as the maker of one particular type or style of music. He told Stereogum some of the material sounds like dance tracks he's recorded with his Daphni side project mixed with Caribou.
"It just happens that some of the tracks that were supposed to be dance-y were the most interesting to me," he said. "They had elements that dance music wasn't supposed to have, or had sounds dance music doesn't traditionally have in it, or some beat or tempo that wasn't characteristic of dance music or whatever.
"I've never been successful at being rigid and saying, 'O.K., this track is going to be in this genre.' I always follow my nose and throw in any elements that appeal to me."
Snaith also told the website the as-yet-untitled disc was influenced by the Plastic People club night he's been DJing regularly in London, England.
The album doesn't yet have a fixed release date.
