Metallica have launched a new iPhone application that will let their fans listen to tracks recorded live at their shows while they're jogging, going to work or whatever else.
The iPhone application lets fans download tracks they've previously purchased from LiveMetallica.com to their iPhones. There's a small fee of 99 cents. That means if you want to obsessively listen to a Metallica show you attended on this year's tour in support of
Death Magnetic, you can do it on your computer, iPhone and even your iPod, if you still use that in addition to your iPhone.
"In our ongoing efforts to be of service and give you as many options as possible in the digital era, we asked the brainiacs that help us out with LiveMetallica.com to come up with a super-cool iPhone application that creates a streaming interface to your LiveMetallica account," the band said in a statement.
In other news, Metallica recently shot a video interview with Jim Breuer in which he asked the band if they would ever consider playing a gay character in a film. Frontman James Hetfield said no, but drummer Lars Ulrich's answer was a bit different.
"The couple times that people have thrown stuff at me over the last few years, it's always about playing a rock dude," he said, "and I would say the only thing that would interest me in terms of doing that stuff would be playing something completely out of whack, like a gay man. That would actually make it attractive."
"What do you mean by 'attractive'?" guitarist Kirk Hammett promptly asked.
"You'll work it out yourself," Ulrich shot back.
"But I would say that would definitely be more interesting because a few of us get thrown things like that once in a while and it's always pretty much like, 'Play a rock dude.' But the word you keep coming back to is 'acting,' so full blown gay, no problem."
Hammett slyly answered the only way he would do it was if he could play Rob Halford.
"Of course, I don't exactly look like him," he said.
