When The Get Up Kids reissued their 1999 Something To Write Home About album earlier this year as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations earlier this year, frontman Matt Pryor talked openly about the band's time on tour with Weezer in 2001.
Some of the footage on the bonus DVD that came with the reissue features The Get Up Kids in Kansas City, Mo., smashing their instruments in a planned but nevertheless awesome manner. Much to their disappointment, Weezer weren't interested in getting involved in any antics on the tour.
Pryor spoke about the tour in a recent interview with Spinner, referring to the lack of nerd-love they often received from the Weezer gang.
"They never said anything to us for that entire tour," he recalls. "They're the only band I've toured with for a month that I've never spoken to. They're jackasses."
This wasn't the only example he could give where Weezer turned out to be totally frigid — Pryor recalls a night in Milwaukee where Weezer declined to share the stage with Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick.
But the joke was on Weezer — while they drank beer backstage with Nielsen and Zander's sons, Nielsen gave the guitar he borrowed from Weezer to the crowd during their set.
Weezer's Raditude will be released Oct. 27. It is the band's seventh full-length.
