Language Police Accost Trews At Toronto Maple Leafs Game

The Trews

Toronto Maple Leafs fans were disappointed to see their team lose the season opener to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in overtime last week, but The Trews' Colin MacDonald was especially bummed.

MacDonald took his seat inside the Air Canada Centre after playing the pre-game tailgate party with his band mates. Everything was going fine until he accidentally dropped the F-bomb — twice.

"The Leafs were winning the game, then the Canadians scored and tied it up," explains MacDonald.

"I said 'Fuck,' not to be mean or anything, but just as something you say when that happens.

"The usher looked at me and was like, 'Hey, you better not say that again or you're outta here'."

With just seconds to go in overtime, the Canadiens snuck one past Toronto goalie Vesa Toskala, and that was it for the Leafs. Although the game was over, security still felt it was necessary to accompany MacDonald out of his seat.

"The second time I said the F-word, the usher came over and 'escorted' me from my area. A couple of Trews fans came to my aid though, so that was pretty cool."

Montreal may have won the original six matchup on Thursday night, but MacDonald is confident the Leafs will have a better season in the end.

"The Canadiens were the better team, but the Leafs just have to get their footing. I'd rather see them lose now than see them start hot and then blow it at the end of the season."

The Trews' new Friends & Total Strangers acoustic album arrives in stores tomorrow and MacDonald is ready to hit the road to promote it.

"We did a lot of touring for this last record and now we're just like, 'How do you reinvent the band?'

"You always want to do something different or take a different angle on your work. It's just a matter of not always doing the same thing. Your instincts always take you to different places and it's about breaking out of the box."

Let's hope MacDonald can keep his filthy mouth in check at these Trews' acoustic gigs:
