The Orb Working With Pink Floyd's David Gilmour On New Album

The Orb

British ambient act The Orb and Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour are joining forces on a new project.

Perhaps they're trying to capture what Scissor Sisters did by reinventing "Comfortably Numb"?

"I've just started work on an album with David Gilmour from Pink Floyd which I think every Orb and Pink Floyd fan will want to hear," The Orb's Alex Paterson told British magazine The List recently. The article was placed on Pink Floyd fan site Brain Damage.

There's no word as to the album's direction or when it might come out, but it's not the first time Paterson and Floyd members have worked with each other. In 1996, Paterson created two different remixes for "Runaway," a track off late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright's 1996 Broken China album.

The Orb have often been seen as an ambient Pink Floyd thanks to their psychedelic electro dub shows. Some critics also dubbed them the "Pink Floyd of the '90s" when they broke out with the success of their Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld and U.F. Orb albums.

The Orb released their latest album Baghdad Batteries, earlier this year. They nixed a North American tour this summer but they plan to reschedule the dates in the future.

Meanwhile, Gilmour appears on a benefit charity single entitled "Chicago – Change The World" with Bob Geldof and Chrissie Hynde. The song is intended to raise awareness about Gary McKinnon, a British hacker accused of gaining access into nearly 100 NASA and U.S. military computers during 2001 and 2002. He faces extradition to the U.S. for the charges.
