The Chart Time Tunnel: Julie Doiron And The Wooden Stars

The period of eligibility for music for Juno Award nominations has always had a overlap of a couple of months.
Usually, material released in September and October can be eligible for two concurrent Juno Awards. So this is the prime period for albums seeking Juno Award recognition. Ten years ago, the campus chart featured three nominees and two eventual winners.
During the week of Sept. 16 to 23, 1999, the collaboration between Julie Doiron and Wooden Stars rose a spot to begin a run of four weeks at the top of the campus chart.
This album would win the best alternative album at the 2000 Juno Awards six months later. Guided By Voices' Do The Collapse dropped to #2, followed by a new entry, Stereolab's Cobra And Phases Group Play Voltage In The Milky Night arriving at #3, the highest debut that week.
Tricky Woo's Sometimes I Cry, a former #1, rose three positions to #4. Sometimes I Cry was also nominated for the best alternative Juno in 2000. The Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin rounded out the top five, holding that position from the last chart.
Blackie & The Rodeo Kings' Kings of Love which took home the best roots or traditional album - group Juno dropped 10 spots the week of Sept. 16 to 23, 1999, landing at #14.
There were a couple of Canadian artists who experienced major leaps on the chart this week. Blurtonia's Adventures In The Kingdom Of Blurtonia rose 32 places to sit at #7 and Emm Gryner's Science Fair jumped 27 places to land at #13.
After Stereolab's impressive debut, Lonnie James' Dee-o was the next highest entry, arriving at #18. Santana's nine-time Grammy Award winning album, Supernatural, arrived at #28. Grade's Triumph And Tragedy EP entered at #37 and Front Line Assembly's Implode debuted at #40.
